This Sunday we are going to look at life's most important question as we start this new series of "Answering Life's Toughest Questions" What is the Point of Life?
When we don't understand the point of life it causes all kinds of negative effects in our lives. Solomon, one of the wisest men who ever lived says there are five results that happen in your life when you don't know what is the purpose;...Life seems useless, tiresome, un-fulfilling, insignificant or uncontrollable. If you don't know the purpose of life it's all seems meaningless. When you do not know the point of life, you have three options: try to make up your own meaning, escape, or seek the real meaning of life.
Many people try to make up some meaning for life. We were made to have something at the center of our life. If it's not God at the center, people try to put something else there like being addicted to making money, or sports, or work. People are trying to fill their life with meaning. Some say, "You came from nothing, you're going to nothing, you weren't created, you were a cosmic accident and when you die-that's it. The Bible tells us differently - You matter, you matter to God.
Other people try to escape when they believe life has no meaning; using TV, food, sex, drugs or even suicide. If you do not
know the meaning of life, there is despair. Life seems useless, pointless, and insignificant. This is because life without God has no meaning.
On the other hand, you can seek the real meaning of life. "Long ago God chose us to be his very own. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by sending Jesus Christ to die for us. And he did this because he wanted to!" He adopts us into his family, you were made to be a part of God's family and when the time is right, he will gather us all together to be with him forever.
Here at First Baptist Church, we are committed to helping you prepare for eternity so when you get to the final exam you will know the right answers. The greatest waste is to live your entire life without ever knowing the point of it. Come join us this Sunday to seek the truth about "What is the Point of Life"
