State Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford released the following statement on the 47th anniversary of Medicare:

“Today, we celebrate the 47th anniversary of a program that continues to improve the lives of seniors and those with disabilities by helping to provide quality affordable health care to them.”
“I refuse to let seniors live in squalor because we won’t provide the care they’ve earned and deserve. For the first 27 years of my life, I visited my grandmother every week in a nursing home. I know what Medicare means to a family. I’ve seen firsthand how our seniors and their families value and need Medicare. We need to treat our seniors with respect.”
“In Congress, I will stand with the 300,000 seniors in Nevada who are currently on Medicare and fight against Republican efforts to enact drastic cuts or end Medicare as we know it. I will oppose Republican plans to hand Medicare over to private insurance companies that would cost seniors thousands of dollars. “
