When the Mesquite Veterans Center swings into action, it doesn't take long to get things done.
Having held a fundraiser for Margaret and Larry Stump last Saturday, July 14, to gather enough money to help them purchase a new car, Cliff Jenkins, President of the Vets Center, handed over a check to Ken Garff Mesquite Ford Lincoln on Wednesday, July 18. The money paid for about half of the vehicle with the rest kicked in by the dealership. "We like to help our military veterans whenever we can," remarked Dave Heath, sales representative for Ken Garff.
Margaret was undergoing medical treatment for throat cancer and her husband, Larry, was driving her to doctor's appointments in St. George. Their car broke and they were stranded. While friends made temporary arrangements to get the couple to and from the doctor's office, the Veterans Center organized the fundraiser.
On Wednesday, the Stumps drove away in their new car with Margaret behind the wheel.
