Mesquite has reached the sultry time of year when only the hardiest of golfers challenge the local courses. The Oasis Men’s Golf Club is no exception. Less than two dozen players took on the Palmer course on Monday, June 11. They played an uncomplicated game of best low net score.
Marty Conway was the only player to break 80, shooting a steady 37-38, 75. Most others seemed to succumb to a bad hole or two or missed short putts on a day that should have been good for scoring.
Conway took top honors in first flight with his net 66. Duane Carrier and Doug Zinni followed with
net 69s and Bill Homer rounded out the top four with an even par net 71.
Dan Davila won the second flight division with a net 66. Davila was challenged more closely in the flight with Bill Wells on his heels shooting net 67, Ron Hills 68, and Norm Crockett a two under par 69.
Bill Homer and Drew McDermaid each took home two first flight skins. Conway, Terry Donnelly, and Jerry Schulz each captured one.
Second flight only had to divide their skins pot into fourths. Kim Hardy won half of them. Davila and “Birdie” Bob Mason split the other two.
Milt Clark won the closest-to-the-pin challenge on hole #16.
