TUESDAY: WOODWARD BREAKS THE 60 BARRIER

When are these winds going to end? They didn’t seem to affect Joe Woodward on Falcon Ridge this past Tuesday as he kept his head down and fired a nice round of 91 for a net 59 and low net honors. Second low net went to Gerry Hart (94) and a net 69. In third place low net all alone was Gary Denhalter (88) and net 71. Jim Chatlin(90) netted out 74 for the 4^th net place. Only three players managed to break 90 and they were “Bubba” Petrick (84) for medalist honors. Followed by Gary Denhalter and “Smitty” Huetter with 88’s.

THURSDAY:

HYLAND HITS SHOT OUT OF WATER TO WIN 8^TH PLACE

The MMGA played their monthly tournament on Thursday at the Canyons combining 6 holes of best ball, 6 holes of player vs player, and 6 holes of alternate shot. Teams were matched according to handicap and points awarded accordingly. Over all Jim Smith finished in first place with 14 points, he earned 2pts in the individual game, and 6 pts each in the other two games. Second place with 13 pts was “Bubba” Petrick and Courtney Larsen.

Using the tie-breaking rules Petrick took second and Larsen

third. Frank Thomasino, Tom Durenberger, “Smitty” Huetter, and Jim Chatlin tied for 4^th with 12 pts. Again using the tie-breaking rules and the last resort “roll of the dice”, Thomasino finished 4^th, Chatlin 5^th, Huetter 6^th and Durenberger 7^th. Jerry Hyland, Bob Gallihugh, and Glade Flanigan tied for 8^th with 11 pts. Rules and the toss of the die awarded Hyland 8^th, Gallihugh 9^th and Flanigan 10^th. The last spot was a tie between Russ Clark and Bill Eller with nine pts. The roll of the dice awarded the 11^th spot to Clark.

APERCU’S: Jerry Hyland had the shot and hole of the day on the difficult par four 6^th hole on the Canyons. His drive was to the corner from whence he hit his second shot in the water. Anyone who knows Mr. Hyland knows that if he can see that ball he is going after it. And so he did, hitting it out of the water to within 10 feet of the cup and sank the putt for a Bubba Watson par.
