The Mesquite Challenge was held at the Falcon Ridge golf course Monday, Apr. 23. Sixteen two-person teams turned out in perfect weather and once again the contest turned out to be a very close race. The two man teams seem to be trying a little harder in this one so as not to be bested by the women teams entered. The format of best ball front nine and scramble back nine proved to be a real test for all players.
The winning team of Ray Mendoza-- Ray Rodgers edged out the 2nd place team of Lee Sweat and Tim Potter by a net score of 60 to 60.6, less than a full stroke, due to their birdie on hole 18. Third place went to the Carl Larsen/Ed Hoephner team with a 61.2 net score. Fourth place was the team of Brent Arndt/Art Kalivas.
This tourney produced the closest
overall finish to date, with eight of the sixteen teams finishing within three strokes of the winners. The par three winners were rewarded with a pass to the Monday Falcon Ridge Skins Game, donated by Brian Wursten.
Winners were, hole #2-Lee Sweat; hole #5-Mike Moreau; hole #8-Cheryl Campbell; hole #14-Ray Mendoza; and hole #17 was won by none other than Clark (kp) Mitchell.
A good time was had by all on the course who then enjoyed a fine lunch in the clubhouse. And as always, the fine treatment from Brian Wursten and his staff made us feel welcome and appreciated.
