MMGA - Perfect Weather, Almost Perfect Scores
Posting Date: 04/20/2012

TUESDAY: DURENBERGER EDGES HENDRICKS - ANDERSON HAS 62

The weather was perfect and the scores came in low as one might expect. Five players turned in scores below 80 which included the entire foursome of Frank Thomasino (79). Tom Durenberger (78), Pat “Smittty” Huetter (79) and Ben Bishop (79). Neil Hendricks had trouble on the front with a 41 but finished strong on the back with a one over par 37. In fact, nine players had nine holes of 39 or less. Bishop had the best front side of even par 35 aided by two birdies and Hendricks and Huetter had the best back sides with one over par 37’s. Durenberger broke the tie with Hendricks when he bogeyed #6 while Hendricks double bogeyed it. Jim Anderson (86) was the story for the low net category. With help from driving coach Delbert Moore, Anderson was able to shoot one of his best rounds in a while. The 86 netted out to a 62 two strokes better than runner-up Bishop’s net 64. Huetter won third with a net score of 67 by paring #6 while fellow player John Neidermaier (83) bogeyed it for 4th. Gary Denhalter (84) and Dick Swayne (81) tied for the fifth spot with net 68. Gatry’s par on the first hole awarded him 5th and Dick got the last spot.

THURSDAY:

MANTHEY BACK ON TOP - DURENBERGER, HUETTER TIE

Now this kind of weather is more like it. Ron Manthey took advantage of the perfect conditions

to put himself back on top of the MMGA hit list. Ron played a steady round of 38-39 -77 to edge out challenger “Smitty” Huetter by two shots. Huetter shot 40-39-79 the only other player to break the 80 barrier. Tom Durenberger (82) and Pat Huetter (79) tied for low net honors with their 67’s. Durenberger would earn first place with a nice par on #6 while Huetter had trouble and doubled it. Third place was up for grabs as well for improving Ben Bishop (83) and the ever present Tom Greer (83). Bishop took third with a bogey and Greer 4th due to a few extra strokes. Thanks to Tom Greer for finding Brad Caron and bringing him to the golf course. It’s sad to see all the “snow-balls” heading back north but to all of them be safe and come back to us in the fall.

APERCU’S: Gary Denhalter as far as we know had the hole of day on #10 he hit his third shot from down on the dirt to a blind shot pin to within 4 feet which he sank for a nice par four. Dick Swayne may have had the shot (putt) of the day when from five feet off the front of #18 he putted some 60+ feet for a “sweet” birdie three that tied his playing partner Ben Bishop three.

NOTE: Next play is on Tuesday April 24, at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge, and Thursday April 26th at the Casablanca at 7:00. Always check your sign - up sheets, and or our website, for any changes. Anyone interested in the MMGA may call 346-6363 or visit our website at mesquitemensgolf.com.
