On Sunday and Monday, March 25 and 26, the Oasis Country Club conducted its 2012 Men’s stroke-play Club Championship. This tournament was open to all country club members, not just the Oasis Men’s Golf Club that conducts other tournaments and weekly outings throughout the year. The challenge took place on both the Canyons and Palmer courses over 36 holes of play.
A beautiful Sunday round gave way to a more blustery Monday generally sending scores a few strokes higher for most players.
Brian Bergman was steady in winning the championship flight with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total. Terry Donnelly captured first flight honors with rounds of 81-87, 168 total. Rick Burton is the second flight champion with rounds of 83-88, 171 total.
The championship flight players are not finished yet. An added twist for this year has the top six finishers playing a match play mini-tournament to determine the over-all club champion for 2012.
Joining Bergman, who by virtue of his top finish is the number one seed, is Kevin Parrish (74-82) who finished second with a two-day total of 156. The pair will get first round
byes in the match play competition.
John Brewer (78-80:158), Jerry Ransdell (80-80:160), Barry McKay (76-86:162), and Jim Austin (78-87:165) placed third through sixth in the Sunday-Monday competition and earned entry into the finals.
Ransdell will play McKay with the winner going on to play Bergman and Brewer will play Austin for the chance to challenge Parrish. Those winners will play off for the year long bragging rights as “Club Champ”.
McKay’s 137 two-day net score won the net division in championship flight.
Chuck Endres won the net division of first flight with net scores of 64-70: 134. Ron Wilson took second place with his 66-71:137. Jim McMahon (63-76) and Eddie Webb (64-75) shared third place honors with matching 139 totals.
Bob Cuschleg (66-65) was one of the few players scoring better on Monday and is the second flight net division winner with a 131 total. Dick Wilson (61-74: 135) claimed second place. Ed Millham (71-70) and Tom Stolte (68-73) matched 141 totals for a share of third place.
The Oasis women take their turn in tournament mode with their stroke-play Club Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27 and 28.
