Several weeks ago the First Baptist Church of Mesquite embarked on the 40 Days in the Word program and the results have been both meaningful and exciting at the same time. We have set up small groups to do this program and the groups range from 4 to 12 people. Each group meeting lasts from one to two hours weekly. The group watches a video with a follow-up discussion.

The exciting part of our program is that we are not just merely listening to the Word of God. We are doing what it says. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22.

We are planning community service projects to serve others in our community. Some of our projects are:

The Senior Adult Bible Study Class at First Baptist Church is holding a clothing drive. All good used clothing donations are welcome and appreciated. The clothing will be sorted and donated to the Virgin Valley Community Thrift Store to benefit the Food Bank. The Collection Drive is Saturday March 24 from 9a.m. -2p.m. at the church located at 700 Hardy Way. For more information 702-346-7061.

Another of our small group projects is “The Gift Of Time For You.” During a weekend night once a month, you can drop off those whom you care for everyday. We will care for and entertain them in a safe, nurturing environment. That

will give you a few hours of time for yourself as a brief respite from your day-to-day activities.

We are accepting anyone, ages from 2 to 102, and will have a range of age-appropriate craft activities, games, movies and refreshments to make their time fun and your time worry-free. Our first Gift of Time will be Saturday, Mar. 31, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. There is no charge for this Gift. We simply ask that you make a reservation in advance to insure we have sufficient volunteers and materials on hand. We also ask that you fill out an application so that we have emergency contact info.
