Recently President Obama apologized to Afghanistan President Karzai for the burning of approximately 70 Muslim Holy Books (The Koran.)These Holy Books were burned at the Bagram Air Field because Muslim detainees were using them as notebooks to transmit messages among themselves. That means those books were already desecrated by the hands of the users before they were burned.
Four American soldiers were killed by these religious fanatics because of those books being burned.Who is going to apologize to the families and parents of these soldiers?
In looking back I find it hard to apologize for the burning of a few books.
In October 1983 two truck loads of bombs were driven into a Beirut military barracks killing 241 Americans (mostly U.S. Marines) and injuring another 60 others. The perpetrators were believed to be the Lebanese’s Shia Militia and Political Party Hezbollah.Did anybody apologize for that cowardly event?
In October 2000 an Al Qaeda suicide bomber pulled a small boat load of explosives along side the destroyer, USS Cole in Yemeni Harbor. The resultant blast killed 17 sailors and injured 39 others.Did anybody apologize for this deadly event?
OnSeptember 11, 2011, the Islamist Militant Group Al Qaeda commandeered four civilian aircraft. One was flown into the Pentagon, another was crashed into a field near Shanksville, PA as a result of heroism of the planes crew and passengers. The other two were flown into the Twin Towers in New York City.Nearly 3000 people, mostly civilians, died as a result of the heinous crime.Did anyone apologize to America?
All I remember is televised clips of Muslims dancing in the streets and burning American flags and effigies of the President of the United States.
Apologize for the burning of those books!NOT!I think the President should have told Karzai to get control of those fanatics or the United States would pack it’s bags along with the millions of dollars in aide to that country and leave.
I know Afghanistan is politically important to the United States and probably to the entire middle east.I believe they should be made aware that the United States is the most powerful nation in the world and does not apologize as such.
If you have wronged someone, apology is right and proper. To apologize to someone because they have wronged you is lunacy.

Posted Date: 03/03/2012 Not only should we get out that God forsaken country we should take everything with us or destroy it - every nut, bolt, brick, wires, etc.....And on the way permanently poison all the acres and acres opium plants that produce the heroin that destroy people right here in the US. Let's leave that country to their own demise and they will continue to kill each other until most of them are gone. By: Robert
Posted Date: 03/02/2012 Finally, a common sense response! Well said, Bill! In wartime (and technically, we're still at war in Afghanistan), people are dying and being maimed every day. Homes are being destroyed, lives are being shattered. Yet the burning of some books is what we're up in arms about? Really? How about all the Bibles that have been burned by the religious zealots in the Middle East? Not to mention the Christian missionaries who have been killed in Muslim countries in the last decade. When are we going to hear some apologies about that?
With all the atrocities that must and do occur in wartime, we're going to shed tears over BOOKS? Get real! By: Eldon Lang
Posted Date: 03/02/2012 It is thoughts like this that keep this country in a mess. You missed the big picture Bill. We should have never been there. Think for a minute if the Afghan Army was running around our country like we are in theirs, do you think you would complain then. Of course, you would. They don't want use there. We should be there. This is the crusades all over again. Think of all the Afghans who have been killed since we went into their country. This country needs to stop invading other countries then this wouldn't happen. Apologies is the least of it. By: Jerry

Posted Date: 03/02/2012 Agree. Time to leave. Bring the troops home and let other countries take care of their own business. We got enough problems right here. By: Paul
Posted Date: 03/02/2012 Right on target, Bill! You said it very well! By: Betty Haines
Posted Date: 03/02/2012 My guess is if our country was occupied by the Afghaanistans and they burned a bunch of American flags, we'd be jumping up and down too and killin a few people. Guess we need to try harder to understand each others cultures. By: Nancy
Posted Date: 03/03/2012 Super Chief Lilienthal, the articles you select to write about are based on the major threats facing our Republic. They are well documented and accepted by those who have retained their ability to reach a decision based on the merits not on biased dogmatic political swill.
The best evidence of media political bias demonstrated in the latest disrespect of the Koran Ploy is a long established tactic to rally the Islamic terrorists, best known for blowing up innocent woman and children in the market places. How many times since 9/11 have they used this tactic to begin killing people.
Most importantly have you ever read anything by the biased media identifying the Koran disrespect as a combo ploy of the Terrorist. The biased media write incessantly with exacting detail about how the U.S. forces disrespected the Koran but not one word about how this being a well established Islamic terrorist practice to justify wholesale slaughter of humanity.
Excellent article Bill, based on facts and reason, we look forward to many more.
