By Barbara Ellestad
Elizabeth Beacham, who resides in Highland Manor, won the Mesquite Citizen Journal July Photo contest with her snapshot of three baby owls resting in a palm tree in her brother's backyard.
"Each year I visit my brother in Florida," Beacham explained. "When I was there this May, I took the photograph. He told me recently that there are now five owls and a family of squirrels in his yard."
Beacham won $50 for her photograph. "I'm going to WalMart tomorrow so this will come in handy."
Congratulations Elizabeth.

Aah, the beauty of God's creation was taken at my son's home last month. I was so excited to see a beautiful butterfly (they seem so rare anymore) that I followed it for what seemed all morning; it almost knew I was taking its picture because it remained on the same bush for over a half hour.

A juvenile bluebird watches as its mother brings a meal to its second batch of young ones this season. If you look closely through the opening of the bird box, you can see the open, yellow beak of one of the baby birds ready to be fed. Mom and Dad are kept busy from sunrise to sunset.

Six photographs have been entered in this month's Mesquite Citizen Journal Photo Contest.
Now it's up to you to help decide who will win this month's $50 gift certificate purchased by the MCJ from a Mesquite business selected at random.
To vote, click on the left menu button titled "July Photo Contest." Scroll down your computer screen until you see the poll listing all six entries. Click in the small round circle next to your favorite photograph. Make sure you click on the "Vote" button at the end of the list of photographs.
That's all you have to do.
Voting will be open until Midnight July 31. Please, one person, one vote.
Because of suspected voting irregularities, the Mesquite Citizen Journal will make the absolute final decision on the winner regardless of the number of votes if ballot stuffing is suspected. Just be honest people, it's not that big of a deal.
The winner will be announced August 1.
