The Mesquite Citizen Journal proudly announces Tim Castille as the winner of the March Photo Contest. Castille took his Elephant Rock photo in February 2013 in the Valley of Fire State Park by moonlight and starlight. He used a 30 second exposure at high ISO.

The monthly contest featured seven photographs from local Mesquite residents, all vying for a $50 gift certificate purchased by the Mesquite Citizen Journal at a local business.

Tim Castille - Elephant Rock = 14 votes, 32.56 percent

Chad Klein - Conestoga Gold = 11 votes, 25.58 percent

Melanie Sorensen - Blue Sky = 6 votes, 13.95 percent

Ava Scudder - Sun City Sunset = 5 votes, 11.63 percent

Sandra DePew - Miles and Miles = 3 votes, 6.98 percent

Jenna Cherry - Lunch Break = 3 votes, 6.98 percent

Sue Williamson - Black-eyed Susan = 2 votes, 2.33 percent

I can see for miles and miles...I recently went on a hike in Gold Butte...What a beautiful desert we live in..who knew there were large rock formations, petroglyphs, and views that are awesome, right in our back yard.

I took this photo and didn't realize the bird had captured a lizard until I was going back through the photos. I decided to call it 'Lunch Break,' because this bird landed just long enough for me to snap its photo then he was off again.
