VVWD Projects Half Million Dollar Budget ShortfallPosting Date: 04/11/2013

Just like many households, the Virgin Valley Water District is experiencing a decrease in revenues and an increase in expenses. That's the message the District's Board of Directors received last week as they put together the final numbers for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2013-14 budget.
The District projects a "net cash loss after adjustments" of $562,800 in its operating budget for next year.

The Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors decided Tuesday, April 2 that a new employee record access policy wasn't ready for prime time and needed more work.
The issue stems from a recent incident in which Board member Sandra Ramaker read an excerpt from an employee record that was meant to show support for reversing former VVWD General Manager Ken Rock's termination.

COURT HEARING SET FOR FRIDAY TO DISQUALIFY LEGAL COUNSEL
It's been several years since the Clark County District Attorney first filed criminal charges against two former Virgin Valley Water District employees and a retired Nevada Department of Water Resources engineer alleging conspiracy, extortion, bribery, and money laundering.
Shortly after in June 2011, the Virgin Valley Water District (VVWD) also filed a civil lawsuit against its former General Manager Mike Winters, former Chief Hydrologist Michael 'Boomer' Johnson, retired State Engineer Robert Coache, and local wealthy businessman John Lonetti.
Lonetti has not been charged in the criminal case.
Johnson, Winters, and Coache face multiple criminal counts on the charges that stem from sales of water rights in 2005 and 2008 involving Lonetti.

A new employee record confidentiality policy was considered by the Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors at their March 19 meeting but held in abeyance.
"Based on recent events that took place, the District has expressed concern to make sure employee information is protected and secure," Bo Bingham, VVWD legal counsel said.

Miller Stays As VVWD Board President - VideoPosting Date: 03/20/2013

As duels go, it was a short-lived one between Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors Sandra Ramaker and Ted Miller at the March 19 Board meeting.
Ramaker, who's also running for a seat on the Mesquite City Council, asked that the Board consider removing Miller as President. He was voted into the position in January. Her request followed a tumultuous few weeks after the District's General Manager Ken Rock was fired Feb. 19.
