At some point in our lives, nearly every one of us will come into contact with the healthcare system – whether we’re rushing to the emergency room, getting a routine physical, or seeking advice for a persistent cold. And no matter the setting, virtually all of these encounters will have one important thing in common: Nurses.
At Mesa View Regional Hospital, our nurses are a large segment of our team. Amid the blustery winds blowing Wednesday evening, May 1, the Mesquite Arts Council Concert on the Grass provided a chilly yet warm-hearted kick off to the annual Mesquite Days festival.
The opening ceremonies had the Veteran Honor Guard posting the colors and Tony Hardway leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Donna Thomas followed up with a splendid rendition of the National Anthem. One of Mesquite's favorite World War II veterans Ed Gutierrez, now in his mid-90s, played You're A Grand Old Flag on his saxophone with the crowd clapping along.
Mesquite Mayor Mark gave brief comments welcoming everyone to the traditional opening of the Mesquite Days celebration. And then the entertainment began with Sandi Sorenson and Blake Syndergaard mastering the emcee duties for the evening.

When a lot of people were relaxing in the warm spring sunshine, about 35 people were digging through the sandy banks of the Virgin River working hard to remove invasive tamarisk from the shoreline Saturday morning, April 20.
It was all in support of the Partners In Conservation ongoing project at the habitat mitigation and restoration site south of Hughes Middle School on Hafen Lane and a great way to celebrate Earth Day. A grant from the Walton Family Foundation supports the volunteer efforts to restore the area with native plants and to remove non-native tamarisk.
"We've been at this for several years now," Elise McAllister, PIC Administrator, said.
