Tiny Dancers Jilted Out Of Recital

Many of us have experienced the crushing disappointment with the last-minute cancellation of an event we had our heart set on. As adults, we've learned to pick up and go on.

Young girls who were students at the From The Top dance school in Mesquite are learning that same lesson but at a much earlier age.

Karen Law, who owns the dance school located in the Bulldog Plaza, unexpectedly closed her doors May 14 without prior notice just two weeks before her students were to perform at a June 1 recital at the Mesquite Community Theatre.

"The little girls deserve their recital," Tasha Gorman told the Mesquite Citizen Journal. "We're going to pick up and make it happen for them. We just want to pack the theatre with people and make the girls feel good about what happened."

Mesquite City Manager Community Forum Scheduled

This open forum will be held at Scotty’s Restaurant at Falcon Ridge Golf Course located at 1024 Normandy Lane. This is an opportunity to ask questions, share your concerns or to just meet and visit with the City Manager.

Battle Over Country Club Liquor License Continues

The room was packed, seemingly split in equal proportion of those in favor and those not in favor of a recent decision to abandon liquor sales at the Mesquite Vista Country Club.

As the Mesquite Vista HOA Board of Directors met Thursday, May 16, the ongoing dispute over the issue was front and center.

Continuing his latest 'home run' streak, Frank Pati hit it out of the ball park again Tuesday, May 14, when Mesquite Mayor Mark Wier awarded him the 'Key to the City.'

Pati, 78, was recently named the first Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year for his work as the Founder and Chairman of the Mesquite Senior Games.

As Mayor Wier made the presentation at the Mesquite City Council meeting, he said, "I want people to know in this town that we have wonderful people working and living here. They are above the call of 'wonderful.' This gentleman I've known since the first day I moved into town."

Boys And Girls Clubs Makes Mesquite Presentation-Video

"As we are trying to put something together, I thought it would be great to get another opinion," Mesquite City Councilman Geno Withelder said as he introduced Ken Rubeli, Executive Director, Boys and Girls Clubs of Henderson, NV at the City Council meeting May 14.

It was a follow-up to a presentation Dennis Lee gave in April to create a special 'hang out' place for teenage youth in Mesquite.

Mesquite Council Approves New Communication Tower-Video

The audience at the Mesquite City Council meeting May 14 was filled with Sun City Mesquite residents tired of poor cell phone signals in their neighborhood. They were there to encourage the councilors to approve a 120-foot tall tower that promises to help alleviate their frustration. [Read more]
